Recently on our SubReddit we were asked about how the newly refreshed XVape Avant compared to the XMax V3 Nano.
Released summer of 2023 the XMax V3 Nano is a small pen like unit that is much like the V3 Part of the nomenclature. Out of the box, our disappointment was the fact that the V3 Pro dosing capsules didn't fit the chamber. Hopefully there is a solution in the pipeline from TopGreen not just for the Nano but the Avant too. Super simple design, one button does all the work with a multi colored Red, White, Green LED to show battery level so you can recharge quickly via the USB-C port built in.
The Avant was released around the North American Winter Solstice and we asked the XVape Team to send us one to try. We had a chance to put it to the test under some harsh conditions here in Maine Snowshoeing.
Here is a bit of the comparison we shared:
- Can't recommend pocketing either device without some minimal case protection
- Avant is 110mm in length, 30mm wide and 15mm thick
- Nano is 135mm in length, 20mm wide and 20mm thick
- Mouthpiece is fragile on both devices, Borosilicate Glass on the Nano, Zirconia Ceramic on the Avant
- Avant has 5 preset temps vs the Nano with a single setting that shifts from 392˚F to 428˚F after 2 minutes and the 30 second warm-up.
- Session Time on the Avant is 3.5 minutes compared to 3 Minutes on the Nano
- Battery capacity for the Avant is 1500mAh vs the 1000mAh housed in the Nano
- Both devices get 4-5 sessions per charge. The devices function better on a more full charge.
- Heating Chamber and Material for the Avant is ceramic while the Nano is silver plated stainless steel
- Loading the Nano is a little tougher due to the small area to insert material into the chamber. The Avant has a wider elipse oval oven that is easier to load and empty post session. We place one of our ArGo sized BackSpacer screens on the top of the Nano load so that it is easier to unload post session. The Avant may have some flowers stick to the ceramic filter at the base of the mouthpiece, these brush off easily while the mouthpiece is warm and the flowers can be easily emptied while warm too.
- Nano has a 14/18mm Glass Water Pipe adapter and lots of spare parts available in regard to the mouthpiece. the Avant has a silicone sleeve in the works, we hope to see extra spare parts for the Avant as time progresses.
- Both devices are designed for single session use. Allow them to cool before starting a 2nd session. They are micro heaters.
- The XMax Nano and XVape Avant both operate off a single button interface. The Nano has haptic feedback for when the device reaches temp and powering off. Button on the Nano is backlit with a 3 color LED that goes from Green to White to Red as the charge decreases. The Avant has 5 Red LEDs that indicate the battery charge when the device is powered on, then it goes to the last preset setting, so adjust accordingly on boot if you are a flavor chaser looking for lower temps.
- Cleaning, the Nano has smaller o-rings and parts compared to the Avant mouthpiece that has a wider and larger filter with a finer stainless steel screen filter sandwiched in the silicone housing.
- As shown in the photo, we have a synthetic corundum Ruby Pill in the Mouthpiece of the Nano for extra cooling of the vapor path. We also have one installed in the Avant, you just can't see it through the ceramic zirconia which is opaque.
